We have two gorgeous APE Achiever’s of the month this April, because two gorgeous girls have the best news. Ruby and Eboni are one step closer to the wild!
After years of healing, learning, and growing at our BORA Rescue Centre, Ruby and Eboni have taken their biggest step yet. They've moved to the pre-release island in the Busang Ecosystem, Borneo, and they are thriving. High up in the canopy, doing exactly what orangutans were born to do.

Ruby’s Story
In early 2024, our team received reports of an orangutan kept as an illegal family pet. What they found broke their hearts. Ruby, roughly eight years old, had a chain around her neck. She had been held captive for six years. Alone, scared, and fed human food, she had suffered unimaginable trauma.
But Ruby is a survivor.
Safe at BORA rescue centre, she blossomed. She grew strong, confident, and healthy. She learned the forest skills she had been denied for so long.
From captive orangutan, to a wild life in the trees. Thanks to you!

Eboni’s Journey
In April 2022, a local farmer spotted a tiny, frightened orangutan wandering into a village alone. Eboni was just three years old, lost, and desperately searching for food and safety. She arrived at our BORA rescue centre scared and stressed, her mouth stained black from chewing rubber in a plantation.
She had no one. Until she had us, and you.
Watching Eboni thrive has been absolute joy. Thank you for helping her grow!
With love, care, and time, Eboni became a Jungle School superstar. Cheeky, playful, and full of life, she built strong bonds with other orangutans and showed incredible promise at every turn. She was born for the wild, and now, she's on her way.

On the pre-release island, Ruby and Eboni will spend their days mastering their survival skills and building the independence they need for life in the wild. When they're ready, they'll take their final step: release into a protected forest, where they can live wild, safe, and free, for the rest of their lives.
