A rescue story - made possible by you 🧡

Right now in Sumatra and Borneo, orangutans are in danger. Their homes are being destroyed, leaving them stranded and vulnerable. They are stolen from the wild, sold as illegal pets, and kept in cages. Your support makes sure that when this happens, a team is ready to act fast, and bring them to safety.

Today, I’d love to introduce you to Jani. She was found alone and terrified. Now, she’s safe, and working her way back to the wild. And it’s all thanks to you!

Jani was spotted by local villagers in a farming area, frightened and alone, clinging to a palm oil tree. She’s just five years old - far too young to survive on her own.

Because of your amazing support, a rescue team was ready to act. They searched the farms nearby, looking for her mother. Sadly, there was no sign of her. Orangutan mothers never leave their babies. She had most likely been killed.

The team kept a close watch over her through the night, and after confirming she had been alone for over 48 hours - a critical point for survival - they brought her to safety at YIARI's rehabilitation centre in Borneo. She's had full health checks, undergone quarantine, and is taking her first steps on her journey back to the wild.

Because of you, Jani is safe. She has a second chance. And one day, thanks to your amazing kindness, she’ll return to the wild, where she belongs.

Orangutans feel fear and grief, just like we do. Losing a mother is deeply traumatic. But with the right care, Jani will learn to expertly climb, forage, and thrive. She’ll build and strengthen the skills she needs to live freely in the forest.

None of this happens without you. Your kindness helps fund rescue teams, care for orphans, and give them the future they deserve.

Thank you, truly, for being a part of this work. You are the reason orangutans like Jani get a second chance.
