Bunga

Bunga has been at the IAR rescue centre for eight years. She is a very popular orangutan who has made many friends, both orangutan and human. Bunga has always been one of the most sociable and curious orangutans.

Although she has always had an independent streak, making her nest far away from the other orangutans and squealing if anyone gets too close, in the last six months there has been a noticeable shift in Bunga. She is spending more time by herself, foraging more in areas away from other orangutans, and making her night nests in different trees. As orangutans are semi-solitary by nature, this is an interesting development and possibly a sign that Bunga is becoming more and more like a wild orangutan.

Bunga’s nest building skills are improving, and she is now making more day nests, most probably because it has been raining so much. It is very encouraging that Bunga is developing this skill and she is certainly proving that she has many suitable traits to be released in the future.
