Meet Jack, the young orphaned orangutan, who you helped rescue from a cruel life as a family pet.

Jack is just 18 months old. When our rescue team found him in early December, a heavy chain was locked around his neck. Instead of swinging freely through the trees, he was confined to a small wooden box, two metres above the ground.

At first, Jack looked stronger than we expected. Then he moved, and our hearts sank.
As he hung upside down, our team saw a deep, open wound on his neck, caused by the chain and ropes that held him captive. Chained and alone, little Jack was terrified. He should have been climbing trees, building nests. Not confined to a box in the heat, with no way to move freely.
No orangutan should ever suffer like this, especially one as young as Jack, stolen from his mother and forest home.

But thanks to you, Jack is now safe.
Because of your kindness, Jack was rescued and taken to our BORA Rescue Centre in East Borneo. His wound is being treated and cleaned every day, and he’s had full medical checks. He’s also enjoying the healthy food he needs to recover, grow strong, and thrive.
Most importantly, Jack is no longer alone.
He’s cared for, loved, and is beginning his journey back to freedom. With your help, he will one day live freely in the jungle, just as every orangutan should.
You made Jack’s rescue possible. Without your compassion and dedication to the protection of all orangutans, Jack would not have made it to safety. He would not have this second chance at life in the wild.
Jack’s name was lovingly chosen by one of our wonderful donors, and our team loves it! ‘Jack’ is inspired by Jackfruit, a favourite forest snack for orangutans.
Right now, Jack loves his milk bottles, which he has 5-6 times each day. He is also very much enjoying bananas, carrots, and papaya. He is gentle, sweet, always smiling, and full of playful curiosity.
In time, Jack will build his confidence and begin learning forest survival skills at Jungle School. Step by step, he will prepare for life where he belongs. High in the tree tops, wild, safe and free!
None of this would be possible without you. You helped remove his chains. You helped bring him to safety. Because of you, Jack now has freedom in his future. Thank you so much for helping rescue Jack, and giving him the love, care and support he needs to find his way back to the wild. 🧡
