Meet Randy, a brave young orangutan whose life changed because of you.
Thanks to your support, Randy was rescued from the illegal wildlife trade in West Kalimantan, Borneo.
He was found confined to a devastatingly small cage near an illegal gold mining site–an area well known for extreme danger to wildlife.

At just two years old, Randy has already experienced significant trauma.
He was taken from the forest close to the mining area. It is almost certain his mother was killed. As mining destroys forest habitat, orangutans are pushed deeper into harm’s way, and infants like Randy are often targeted and sold.
For one month, Randy was kept in captivity. He was fed only bananas, bread, and water, and held with the intention of being sold. Then, in an unexpected turn, his captor learned about the serious legal consequences of wildlife trafficking, and reported the case.

And this is where you came in. Where your support made all the difference for little Randy.
Because of your generosity, immediate action was taken. Randy was urgently evacuated from the mining site to protect him from further harm. Young orangutans are extremely vulnerable to stress, illness, and malnutrition, and acting fast can mean the difference between life and death.

A veterinary examination found that Randy was in fairly good condition overall, but not without injury. He had signs of an old fracture in his left thigh that had already begun to heal. This injury likely happened weeks earlier, during a traumatic event before he was taken from the forest. It’s heartbreaking to think that as well as suffering emotional trauma, he was also in physical pain.
After his rescue, Randy was transferred to YIARI’s rehabilitation centre for further treatment and ongoing care.
With you by his side, Randy has now completed quarantine and is beginning the long process of rehabilitation. He’ll soon learn how to climb, explore, and slowly build the skills he will need to survive in the wild, at his own pace.

Randy is now out of quarantine, and ready for the next big chapter: learning how to survive in the wild. Thank you for giving him a second chance.
This rescue happened because of you. Every time you stand up for orangutans, you give orangutans like Randy a future.
Thank you for being a champion for orangutans when they need it most!
