Harapi

At three years old, Harapi continues to grow into a calm and thoughtful young orangutan.

Known for his relaxed nature, Harapi is generally slow and steady in his movements, but he is also learning to stand up for himself when it matters. He enjoys spending time with his close friends Ochre, Arto, and Felix, and although he often prefers a quieter pace, he is becoming increasingly confident around the other young orangutans in Jungle School.

In Jungle School, Harapi still spends much of his time on the ground, where he feels comfortable exploring and foraging. However, he has become braver and is now happy to play with some of the bigger orangutans too. One of Harapi’s favourite activities is searching for tasty treats like bark and termites, which he eagerly collects during his time in the forest classroom. Harapi is an enthusiastic eater and is not picky at all. He happily enjoys foods that some of the other orangutans turn their noses up at, including vegetables.

Harapi has recently been learning important new skills, particularly how to defend what is his and overcome his fears when interacting with others. These small but meaningful steps are helping him build the confidence he will need as he grows older and becomes more independent.

His health is currently very good, and he has grown stronger over time. When Harapi first arrived, he had quite sensitive digestion, but with careful monitoring and good nutrition he is now doing much better. Physically, Harapi is growing taller and longer, and his carers have noticed that he looks slimmer as he continues to develop. Now weighing 8.75 kg, he is steadily growing into a strong young orangutan.

During enrichment time, Harapi particularly enjoys honey logs, which encourage him to explore and problem-solve while searching for the sweet treat hidden inside. He also continues to receive two milk bottles a day to support his development as he grows.

Harapi is becoming more skilled at finding natural foods in the forest, and during Jungle School, he often keeps himself busy foraging and eating. These behaviours are an important part of learning how to survive in the wild one day.

With his calm personality, growing confidence, and love of exploring for food, Harapi is making steady progress on his journey through Jungle School. Every new skill he learns brings him one step closer to a future back in the forest.

Thank you for supporting Harapi and helping him continue this incredible journey
