One of the most powerful ways your support saves orangutans is by rescuing infants from illegal captivity. Swapping tiny cages for a second chance at life in the wild.

Meet little Charlie, who you helped rescue from a cruel life as a family pet.
At just 7-9 months old, Charlie has already suffered so much. Stolen from his mum and the only home he knew, sold into the illegal pet trade, and locked in a cage. But because of you, our rescue teams could reach him, and bring him to safety.
He was found covered in wounds, frightened and alone. Now, he’s safe at our BORA rescue centre in East Borneo.
Today, Charlie clings tightly to his carers and a little plush toy for comfort. He has a milk bottle every two hours, from 6am right through to 8pm, with an extra feed at 1.30am. Slowly, he’s settling in. Falling asleep with his plush toy by his side, feeling safe for the first time in far too long.
Charlie has a long road of recovery ahead. Building his strength, finding his confidence, and learning how to be the wild orangutan he was always meant to be. We’ll be with him every step of the way, and we hope you will be too!
We'll keep you posted as Charlie begins Baby Jungle School, where he will learn the wild skills that will one day set him free.
Thank you for making his rescue possible. To Charlie, your kindness means everything.
